So it's 99 days before Christmas so I decided that since I will be starting my new job in a week or so I better get started before I have no time to knit. Lucky for me I only have 3 persons to knit for this year as I plan to make my other gifts using another form of crafting for everyone else.

But enough about Christmas, I really just wanted to show you guys the hat I made for DH, he's been pestering my forever for a hat with a brim so I did this one on Ravelry with a KAL on the Knitting for Boys group. It done in a lovely Tweed Yarn in bottle green. Accented with a rather nice leather button, which I must admit has grown on me since DH choose the button not even knowing what it was going on.

Notes

Doing this as a part of a KAL, on the knitting for boys group. Pattern given in clues spaced over a few days the 1st clue: Was knitting the Front band, with button holes 3sts each. Never done button holes before so found this quite interesting found this video very helpful.
2nd clue: Knitting the back band and slipping 1st st on purl row to prevent excessive rolling.
3rd clue: Decreasing I used sm to avoid counting.
4th Clue The brim and inserting the Plastic brim. Which did involve Wrap and turn which did take me a few minutes to get my head around but did it and feel quite chuffed. I used the cover of a plastic container for brim filling. This is the video I used for the W&T in 2 parts Here and Here

I really am quite pleased with how it came out I hope DH likes it. If he doesn't I'll wear it.

Do you guys know that song Whoa-oa-oa! I feel good, I knew that I would, now, I feel Good ta na na na na na!! That is exactly how I feel, two finished knits in one month wow I think it's coming back to me; my lost mojo. Here it is Ishbel #2 for my very good friend Rhonda back in the Caribbean, I really hope she likes it.

I really need to get caught up on my blog reading, but I have soooo much going on there is just not enough hour in the day to do all but I will make the time because I REALLY LOVE reading what you guys are doing.

The first 3 pictures show Ishbel blocked. While the 2nd set of 3 are preblocking. It really grew. I think my next Ishbel will be in bulky yarn, to take me through Autumn's chilly evenings.

This is my Second Ishbel in a 50/50 Cotton wool Blend wasn't sure how it would have blocked or if would have kept it points. So far so good. Unblocked it measures 54X21 inches and Blocked 64X31 inches. I placed beads on the knit stitch between the 2 yo’s on chart D and E. 188 Toho Seed Beads 6/0 bought from Robins Beads. I think I am becoming a bead fanatic every time I plan to knit a shawl no I try to find a way to add beads to it. After I have finished all my current WiPs My next shawl will be Haruni I can't wait I will be doing two versions a full lace and a st st version with the Chart B edging I have seen some beautiful ones on Ravelry, so hoping mine will do the pattern justice.

It seems like forever since I've been here, life throws all sorts of obstacles In your way to trip you up but the best thing about life is you can choose whether to stay down or get back up. I'm glad I made the right choice.

I have not knitted in months but I have thought about it so I guess that counts. But I have finally broke the spell and knitted this little beauty. Done with slightly more yarn than the pattern called for to increase the size as the original size was so small, I'm happy I did because the finish size was just right. I ran out of yarn and used another yarn in a slightly darker red to finish the edge I think it gives it depth but that just my opinion. I hope the recipient loves it as much as I do.

Baking no knitting!!

So 2 months into the New Year and I have not been knitting, I have 2 shawls on my needles I really need to finish and just even thinking about it seems daunting. I love knitting with natural light and there is not much of that at the moment and the flourescent lights in the flat just doesn't give me the light I need so I find myself straining my eyes to knit with the black yarn which both shawls are in. So I have been filling my time with bread making I have always wanted to bake my own fresh bread as I think the slice bread from the supermarket is tasteless and doesn't taste anywhere as nice as homemade bread. . I found this really tasty recipe for a Whole Wheat bread with honey and it is so gorgeous I would recommend anyone to give it a go. Simple Whole Wheat Bread.

So far I have done 3 half batches i.e. I cut the recipe in half. I also tried out a really nice Flapjacks recipe they are made from oats so they are almost a healthy snack. So here are a few pics of the finished yumminess.

Here is my long awaited Wrenna a really beautiful knit very quick and super warm, I did not add the lace closure as suggested as it didn't flatter my ample bosom so instead decided I would buy a nice shawl pin, but I was so anxious to show it off I use a hair clip to take the photos, take a look let me know what you think. I'm off to bed for a few minutes off knitting it's been a fun day of throwing snow balls at the neighbours kids and DH. :)

A really lovely pattern. After I deciphered row 14 it was a breeze. I decided to make it a few sizes smaller after reading about the stretch factor I think I could have gone down to the second size but it still fits well :). Overall it took about 14 hours to complete over 3 days :) Used a 8mm needle to finish the sleeve and did 2 rows of rib instead of 1.

Took a million pics of this and still can’t get it right:( it realty is lovely despite my pics.

I am going to make another in a bulky cotton for Summer :)

I got out of bed this morning and the first thing I did was go to the window and I do this every morning during Winter like a child expecting Santa to come down the Chimney. Being born in the Caribbean we have 2 seasons Sun and rain and it has always amazed me at the four seasons that happen in other countries. But what amazes me the most is the season that tugs at my heart strings most of all.

Is it Spring when everything that was asleep and hidden beneathe the ice stretches it's limbs for the 1st time in months, a by what seems like magic just burst to life. Flowers, birds trees all life sings a new song breathing a sweet breathe of sweet air filled the scents of Bluebells and honeysuckles. no it's not spring.

It's not summer although I must admit I do love a good Bar-b-q and having the sun in the sky till 9pm :)when growing my own veg is not just a mare dream but an actual reality when I can go for long walks in the park feel the warm rays on my face and only have to wear the bare minimum of clothing, no not Summer.

It's Winter, when all seems dead and grey, the days are short and the nights are longer, you leave home to go to work it's dark and when you return home again it's still dark. Nothing seems to grow and life almost for a moment seems to stand still; frozen in time. But amidst all the dark and grey days are the moments that follow a Snow fall when the landscape is completely blanketed by these white diamonds and everything looks beautiful now dressed in it's Wintry robes, it brings out the child in us I suppose, sledging, building snowmen, throwing snowballs, I absolutely love it, as a child growing up in the sunny Caribbean I would watch the Christmas TV shows and wished for snow and hoped that I would someday get the chance to experience it. I know to those who have been living with it for all they life it is nothing special and to some it may even be a bother, a pest. but to me I think it's one the amazing things that God created.

Just another quick post to show off my super quick hat and scarf, small and very quick but nevertheless pretty. And Warm !!!!

Notes
Modified to knit in round and added and extra cable rpt to make it extra slouchy. Co 48 sts on 6mm needles inc to 79 sts changed to 15mm needle and follow paterrn, changing k to p and p to k also did 3 rpt of cable rows instead of 2. It took less than 2 hrs to finish. :)

Here it is after talking about it for so long and wanting to knit this for what seems like forever, is finally done. Measuring at 5ft it's the Hemlock Blanket. It was such a nice knit the center motif knitted up pretty quick but as it went along and stitches increased it took a while to knit each row, that is not a complaint that's me just saying. I can see me knitting another one in a super chunky yarn to wrap in during the colder months.Overall a satisfying project.

Shetland Triangle

Four days till Christmas, YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!! I love Christmas I am like a child at this time of year, and honestly it has nothing to do with gifts I just love what it represents and how it seems to even make the grumpiest person seem even happy :-). And all the lights and decorations and seeing friends and family you have not seen all year, and we can't forget the food; yummy dishes we probably cook once a year and the looks on other faces as they eat it. Decadent desserts luscious hams and stuffing ohhh my mouth is watering LOL. But for me this Christmas will be a bit sad being away from my mum and dad, and close family, but I know I'll be seeing them for Easter so I have that to look forward to.

I posted my Ishbel last week I think which I so so love it is so beautiful, so this week is the turn of my Shetland triangle. here she is.

I have always heard things come in three and that seems to be the case with me, first my camera broke now both my DH and my computer has crashed awwwwwwwww it is so frustrating not being able to blog or use Ravelry as I need to I have been forced to use my mobile which is a real pain :( I really do hope I get my new laptop soon I have so much to show :) like my Ishbel and my Shetland shawls my blocked hemlock and Wrenna cardigan :) hopefully i'll have finished my Gail shawl as well, I think I have found my mojo back :). Now where has the time gone?? It's September 22nd already almost a whole year has gone by and am I the only one who thought it when by so fast????

I am now 99.9% recovered from my OP and now recovering a very bad sprained Ankle I fell down the stairs 2 weeks ago while out shopping for a rug, it was very embarrassing and very painful, but the most shocking part of it was they where a few ladies in the shop and after I fell on of them called the shop assistant aside and ask him "are you going be ok" I was in so much pain but I was fuming mad here I was on the floor crying like a child with my poor DH not knowing if he should call an ambulance or just lift me and take me to hospital and she is asking him if he will be ok?? I translated that to mean do you think they will want to sue? How dear she? Anyway I had my first Physical therapy yesterday and the Dr. says it's healing nicely so in about 6-8 wks it should be 100%

I really have no good pics to post because I still have no camera but I did take these pics with a horrid mobile Camera so forgive me. These are a few items I knitted for a friend she wanted gifts for fellow workmates. Since I did these I have not done any knitting I just don't seem to have that drive at all I take up my Shetland triangle every few days and end up putting it back in the basket it's very frustrating, but I am hoping that I will get that buzz back soon because It's getting cold and I need a nice Cardigan and refuse to buy one from the shops because I know I can make a much nicer on for myself. :)
Firstly a shawl it's the same pattern as a shawl I made before Wings

This little hat is a baby size Thorpe I think it's so cute

Also a simple Garter brim hat with a button for embellishment.

Pebble this pattern gets it similar design from Jared's Cobblestone Pullover it is super cute :O) Also made a little hat to match.

Speedy Cabled Cowl quick and easy finished in a few hours.

And lastly Lace brim hat I really love this hat the lace edge gives it a real feminine touch. I probably will make on for myself.

It would seem Christmas has already began here I have seen decorations up and Trees all dress up it's amazing how totally different the cultures of the UK and the Caribbean are back home we don't really start to do the Christmas thing until after our Independence on November 30th, although there are the odd few that would be wanting to but I guess out of respect they don't. I am looking forward to Christmas this year last year we had just moved into the flat and it was a mess we where up to our elbow in paint and cleaning so we spent the day on the living room floor watching TV and eating PIB but this year should be nice my Niece is coming to visit with us and she is bringing Kayla who I have not seen in over a year I can't wait. I have warned her that it may not be the best time to come to the UK but she has her mind made up so she'll have to learn for herself. That should be fun.

Yesterday was the official start of Autumn and if the temperatures are anything to go by Winter is going to be freezing, I am in bed under the Duvet trying to stay warm not wanting to put central heating on (credit crunch) but even in spite of trying to conserve energy the day is so grey and uninviting I just don''t feel like doing anything I got up this morning went to town went to the supermarket did the shopping came back had breakfast and jumped right back into bed, later I will go into the kitchen and make a rich and creamy split pea soup for Supper that should warm me up :)

Well enough of my rambles I am off to think about knitting and hopefully I will get some done today ...Bye

Back in the land of the living!!!

Hi everyone how are you doing? It's been a while since I have blogged. They is much to show you, but because my cameras are on the frizz I can't post pics. :o( I am not even sure when I'll be able to get a new camera, it's a real bummer. What's a blog without pics?

I will just mention a few things I finished while recouping, First I have managed to finish my second pair of socks, and also my Hemlock Blanket, it still needs to be blocked I think I will need loads more pins.I used the pattern from the Rainey sisters website and the crochet Bind off which is much less tiring. Also I have done a few other bits and pieces in between resting on the sofa and sleeping for the first 3 weeks of recovery. In other news ....

I had my surgery, Ouch didn't expect so much pain or so much side affects from the Anesthetic, but thank God it's over with. My only stress comes from waiting for the results to come back from the Biopsy. I think throughout this whole process the worse parts have been the waiting for results. Plus I have so many Dr appointments in the coming Months is scary I hate hospitals and all that sticking and poking, but I know it will all be worth it in the end.

I also have a few more shawls on my needles very excited about that. I am very anxious to get my Shawls finished, because I have so many to get on the needles. But with so many Dr. Appts the likely hood of me actually finishing the ones I wanted to gift for the holidays are very slim. :O(

I still need to show pics of my homemade tools, and my second and third attempt at drop spindling. I will try to see what kind of pics my mobile gives but I am not expecting much.

So much to share but no camera, Arggghhhhhhhhhhh

Needle:US 6and US 10

I started this hat a few weeks ago and have recently finished it I only had 1 ball of each color so thought a stripy effect would be nice, I think it gives it a retro feel and since the colors are that far apart it's not to loud. The yarn was a dream to knit with very soft, it also has a fair amount of elasticity in it so I Use a smaller needle to cast on 90 sts then inc to 135 sts on size 10 needles for the Lace section.
Overall a great easy knit. I am sure it will make a great gift, or i make just keep it for myself (muhahaha).

Six more WIP's so no new project to CO until they are finished. So I need to get cracking because I have so many projects I need to finish before the end of Summer. I have a plan to knit all my Christmas gifts again this year but I'll see how that goes, I know I have been saying I will knit that Cobblestone Pullover for DH forever but at last I am one step closer because I have the yarn it's a wool silk tweed blend so it should be nice. I also would love to be able to knit either February Lady Sweater by Pamela Wynne or Wrenna: Leather-laced cardigan by Kristeen Griffin-Grimes for myself I have yarn that i could use for both so that's good.

I am on a quest to put a severe dent in my Rav queue so if I can finish at least 1 large item every few weeks along with at least 3-4 smaller knits like hats or bulky projects than I should begin to make a dent in it, don't get me wrong I am not trying to speed knit because I knit for relaxation not for speed but at the end of the day if I continue to queue and don't knit anything I will never learn anything either, because each project should teach me something new or reinforce a technique learnt before. And for me that's what my knitting journey is all about.

This super easy shawl was done for a workmate of my DH. I was told he wanted a gift for female 2 days before he needed it, so I had to come up with something quick. It is knitted in Aran weight wool blend, which makes it perfect, because I don't know if she'll want to hand wash or not.

The body of the shawl is knitted in st st on a 7mm needle and the border is knitted in a faggoting stitch, (thanks Sue for telling me what it was called). I steamed blocked it in order to get it to open up which worked a treat.

On other news I have been asked to knit some items for a charity sale at a local Old folks home but I am stomped because I Know with copyright laws you can't knit other peoples designs for sale so I will have to try to find patterns that I would allow me to do that suggestions are very welcome.

I will be off to hospital again on Tuesdays for hopefully my final operation, I really hope they get it all this time. I really hate hospitals. This one will be much worse than the last with a longer recovery period and more pain, and it doesn't help that I can't take pain killers, I pray it all goes well.

Off to bed for me, I a m totally Knackered I spend the day decorating the bathroom and putting down the floor and waiting for sealant to dry.

Forest Canopy shawl

So I have done it!! I have have completed my very forest Lace shawl Forest canopy Shawl, the pattern is very well written and very easy I strongly recommend it for any beginner in lace knitting, I am feeling quite happy with it I am already planning my next one in a much nicer yarn. I the pics that follow show it unblocked with lifelines and all then pinned to my bed and then my attempt to get artistic also one with me wearing it, no really it's just my arm. I am soooooo please with it.
I have already cast on for my second shawl Shetland Triangle and about to cast on Gail aka Nightsong. They will all become gifts as I don't think I should keep all this gorgeousness for myself. Anyway you be the judge. :O)

Spring for Summer.

Hi all it's been a while since my last post so decided to show you my very cute Spring Beret that I made for Summer.

The pattern is very easy to memorize and produces a very nice hat, perfect for summer. :o)

The yarn is a Cotton blend which gives the hat a lot of elasticity and makes it a bit more sturdy which is great as i know it will get lots of wear. The yarn is Sirdar Spree and my fabulous hat cost me all but £1 for the yarn a brilliant buy I think.

Today is my birthday yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh I love birthdays, especially mine, I don't like getting older I just love getting gifts and treats. I received breakfast in bed this morning I love being pampered.

This post is all about me showing you the lovely birthday treats that I have received so far this morning.

First up my friend Rosemary a super duper package filled with loads of goodies.

Beautiful fibre for spinning, Alpaca yarn, from Uk Alpaca Silk from Fyberspates, Opal Sock yarn and loads of little trinkets like cable needles scissors with a beautiful beaded accessory attached to the handle, Shell stitch makers, and pretty row counter bracket, a beautiful yarn cutter pendant, lavender sachets and soap and bath salts, a funky measuring tape A spinning Book and fabulous knitting Mags. Phew. I feel completely spoiled.

I have also received from my Friend Yolande Some Regia Sock yarn and a gift card to spend at my leisure. Yeah me :O)

And lastly but most special my baby Mr Frostyknit made me a handmade Niddy noddy and a handmade swift Pics to come later the glue has not even dried as yet. Also some beautiful flowers, gorgeous perfume in a very pretty old fashion bottle, wine and loads of hugs and cuddles what more can a girl ask for. As I am her writing this post he is making me lunch, isn't he sweet? Tonight he is taking me out for dinner and we are going to he movies .

So what have I been up too??? Well I'll tell you, I have been learning to spin on a Drop spindle I have to say it is very very addictive. It take lots of practice but I think it will be worth it in the end. I have manage to spin a very small am out of yarn so far and that's not because it's a slow process it's just that I have so many WIPS I have not been able to spend a lot of time spinning.

The only thing I would say is that if you spin from non commercial fibre be prepared for the smell of sheep, but the are so many commercially prepared fibre out they that they is no need to to have that experience. I was given some almost raw fleece so I had the experience, so I now know I don't like that odour so when I buy fibre I will buy commercially prepared.

I am hoping very soon to try spinning an a Wheel, I am very excited at the prospect. I hope to eventually get a wheel of my own, a friend of mine has an Ashford Traveller for sale and I am hoping that if I pool all my birthday money together I might be able to get it.

Here is my First attempt at spinning it's undyed as it's only about 35 yrds, I already have my second attempt on the spindle, I feel a bit more confident now so I will try and spin more fibre so I can have more yarn to play with.The fist pic is the yarn on the spindle and the 2nd is after I have set the twist of the yarn so it wouldn't kink up on itself.

Lace Bolero

Finished finally, and I love it it fits really well and covers the top of my arms absolutely perfect.

The Pattern is Ribbed Lace Bolero, done in Rowan Cotton Tape colourway Jade on size 6,6mm and 7mm Addi Needles. It was a very simple knit, I don't know why it took me so long to complete, well it's finished now. I still have at least 2 balls of this yarn left I think I will make a nice summer beret for those many bad hair days when humidity causes me to look like a porcupine. So here it is:

It is very hard to photograph because of the shape of it, but I am going to be very brave and take a pic of me wearing it so you can see it better.

Well it's off to take a nice hot Lavender bath, at get ready for bed. I have had a very long dayand a hard night, for some reason I couldn't sleep last night, so it's almost been 24 hours since I have been awake and I am really starting to feel quite tired now, I really hope it's not a repeat performance tonight.

Hi guys I am back!!!!!!
First let me start by thanking Carolyn for her get well wishes and kind words, she is a real gem. Also Vikki who sent me a fantastic get well package. It was a very nice surprise, thanks to both of you, lovely ladies.

And an update for anyone else who may want to know how I am. I am doing pretty ok, I still can't do certain things like; tinkle without pain but it will go away in time. Hopefully it will all heal before my next op, which I am not sure exactly when that will be but I have my pre op consultation believe it or not 3 days before my birthday wow what a bday gift. (NOT). But I am not going to worry because my God is Good. :O)

In other news, I had so much time just lying on my back I manage to finish my sock and hat and also knitted another hat and started another pair of sock !!Gulp!! on US size 1 needles, which feels like I am knitting with toothpicks. But it's different and I am enjoying it so I will continue. I have been trying to fish project that I have started and somehow have lost the drive to finish like my 10 feet shrug and my market bag. that is going ok because I have threatened myself in order to motivate myself to finish them. A real nut house aren't I? Don't answer. :O)

My 1st socks using Regia 6 ply on US#3 needles. I followed the pattern for Pom Pom Peds minus the pom poms. but I do have some Louet Gems in my stash that I will make these same socks with again.

My Stella Hat done on US#8 needles. the yarn is very nice and soft. I liked the style of the wide ribbed brim of this Next was

A quick Hat in bulky yarn on size #10 needles, with my version of color work. Made for DH.

I have not made any further progress on my hemlock, because I just couldn't concentrate on it plus I needed to look at the pattern and couldn't figure out a way to do that while on my back. :O) Here is a bad progress pic. These are the yarns in my get well package I received from Vikki. All of the them are very nice.
These are Sirdar Peru Naturals, it's a Wool/Alpaca/Acrylic blend. I am not sure what I will make with these 2 as yet, I have so may 1 balls I make make a multi yarn shawl or throw. Who knows. I have also been prepping for my long awaited Hemlock Ring. I have joined a KAL on Ravelry so should have loads of help. So as soon as I am back on my feet I will be posting progress pics of my what I hope will be beautiful Hemlock.

Well off to get some rest not sure if that will happen soon as i am very anxious about tomorrow, but God is my protector he will see me through this.

Yeah Spring is here or is it Summer it so warm !!! The past weeks weeks have been glorious, bright sunny skies, beautiful flowers in bloom the cherry blossoms are on the trees. The weather was so nice I was able to walk to town and back feeling the warmth of the sun on my cheeks and tickling me on my skin, it was so lovely. There is life again in the midst of everything.

I have decided to do a bit of gardening on my patio I have no previous experience so it's all trail and error. so far I have Thyme, Parsley, Rosemary, Lavender, Onions, Garlic, Beans, corn and peas planted and am hoping to sow some tomatoes, carrots and strawberries as well. So far it been going ok, but I have been finding loads of useful information online, so that has helped tremendously. Also been getting some help from a friend I met on the Landshare group on Facebook. A few pics of some of whats growing in my garden
I recently found out that I am going to have to have surgery, not once but twice. It has really left me drained because, I honestly didn't think when I got out of bed on that morning that "today is the day I will find out I need sliced open in order to function as a whole human being" do Dr's like doing this?I am so scared it making me really angry, I didn't realise I was such a chicken I always thought I was stronger. I sure fooled myself. Moving on ...............................I had a huge project on my needles and by huge I mean the size and weight of it, but it's all for a very good cause, all in the name of lending a helping hand. The not-so-ambiguous Chair by Yuvinia. It is done in Sirdar Bigga a super chunky yarn on 15mm needles. I really hoped that I could knit something that she can use, as I tried to add some lace to it. Well it's finish I began by doing a feather and fan pattern at the beginning which created a nice scallop edge and the did a Fishtail lace pattern up the legs of the chair, the seat are a was done in st st and I did a large eyelet cable in the back. And finished it off with an I-cord around the arm and the centre of the chair with a few flowers and ladybirds. These pics don' show the completed chair but and almost complete chair. This really transforms a dull plain ole plastic chair into something elegant and nice. Also I have finished knitting my Shrug in Paris from Drops this pattern was the most confusing thing I have try to knit as yet (not all of it just some parts) but the finish project is an "A+" in my books and it fits really well. And I found out last week it is very warm. Probably would be better on a really chilly evening or later in the year.

I have also been trying to learn to crochet, nothing big but everything item counts as I get to learn new stitches. A little bird a set of Simple coasters and some flowers. I really love the instant gratification you get from crocheting it's much quicker than knitting at least for me is. I am going to attempt to crochet a small round tablecloth for my dining room table which I think will look lovely on the glass top.

I have being looking to get some 4 ply yarns to practice Lace on, and I have manage to get some yarn to start my Lace knitting quest, I got some Knitpicks Gloss Sock yarn, in 3 beautiful colors some Knitpicks bare as well to try dyeing as well I also got some Elann Peruvian Baby Silk, which is so so soft If I had enough I would put them in the tub and roll around in it.

Naughty or nice?

Just a very quick post to ask or you Naughty or Nice??
While doing a very innocent search for crocheted cozies I come across this on Ravelry. So then I thought if this is here what else could be on here so I searched naughty and found and this and this. Then I saw these which then made me realize why they would need this. I am going to be laughing all day after seeing these I mean imagine putting out your lipstick on the bus or train............. oh my goodness it would be hilarious to say the least. And these are just a few of the crochet ones imagine if the search knitting? but I wouldn't.

I don't think of myself as a naughty girl but I do find things like these extremely funny. What about you what tickles your funny bones???

A sudden yearning to knit Lace,

What's up with that??? All of a sudden I have gone batty to knit a lace shawl I have queued over 10 of them in my Ravelry, and really hoping to get stuck in pretty soon. But obviously for my own sanity, and so I will not end up pulling all my hair out I will be knitting in a Fingering weight yarn or Sports weight. My last experience with lace weight yarn left me seriously traumatized and I am not about to go through that again.

I have decided to start my journey of Lace knitting by starting with something easier so I have casted on Ribbed Lace Bolero in Rowan Cotton Tape, it will may a great little summer number to cover that part of my arm I loathe, so at least I still get to wear my tank tops without feeling exposed. Also I have casted on Branching out scarf in Regia crazy color a rather unusual yarn choice (color I mean) it's very vibrant to put it nicely but I am only looking to get practice for the big boys. On my list to knit are
Swallowtail
Blue jeans lace leaf shawl
Shetland Triangle
Diamond Fantasy Shawl
Maya Shawl
Tudor Grace (Scarf)
Upstairs
To name a few these are probably the more beginner lace projects that I have chosen, but you first learn to crawl before you walk.

As for yarn choices I am not really concentrating on anything to expensive, I am hoping that maybe I can use some of the sock yarn I have in my stash for these shawls but because these call for a lot of yarn I may have to find alternatives like Knit picks which would be within my budget. :O) Well I hope you are having a good night my bed is calling out to me to come join it so it's off to dreamland for me. Bad hair Day!!!

My Bad hair day hair I came up with this for my trip to London, my hair was a mess and I need something quick so this hat came into being. I saw a similar hat call secret garden but it was way to slochy and I didn't quite like the number or purl rows and the drecreasing was to basic so I did my own with better decrease.

This other hat was done from the Rebulic hat Pattern another quick knit for a friend with a cold head.

Howdy partners!!!How are you doing? Just a quick post to say I have been knitting, I know like; WOW it is a blog about knitting after all. DUHHH :O)

But first let us talk about S.E.X (Stash enhancement expeditions) I have come to the conclusion that I really don't have enough of any one yarn in my stash to knit anything of substance, So I am trying to enhance my stash with sweater quantities of yarn so I can actually knit something other than hat or Mitts, so recently I bought 17 skeins of Patons Jet from a fabulous online sale on Kemp's 69 pence per ball not bad huh? This is destine to become something fabulous. The Alpaca Wool blend is really nice and soft and will make a really nice Knitted garment.

On to my most recent knit I think it is so adorable, I made this as a surprise for a friend who just had a beautiful baby girl. I really hope it fits, The pattern is the Seamless Kimono Sweater it was a lot easier than I thought after I finally figured out the body. I will definitely make this pattern again. Since it was for a baby I decided to use an acrylic yarn, Caron Simply Soft it was a bit splity but overall it was not the worst thing I ever knitted with, I also knitted a hat to match with a garter brim and matching flowers unfortunately no pic due to dropped camera :O( take a look at it let me know what you think.

I think it's so cute, make me feel very broody!! Maybe that will help me with my TTC. :O)

Uk Swap - Winter Warmer Package.

My package has arrived and I really love it. My Swap Pal Marianne has done a really good job. the package contained a pair of gorgeous Mittens (Rav link to pattern) and Manos del Uruguay 100% wool that will definitely become a hat. It also contained some hot chocolate, an organic chocolate bar a cute cupcake mug, an assortment of beautiful buttons and a garden in a bag for Chilli's.

I really need to take some photography classes all my pics suck big time.

Me modelling my new Mitts, very comfortable and warm. Well I am a happy Camper off to go do the dishes and wash my hair. Byeeee

I love snow I really do it could be because I am not accustom to it but I don't think so it's because it its just so beautiful, it cleans and brightens an otherwise dull place. Woke up this morning and found a blanket of snowy gorgeousness. Even as I sit her looking through the window it is really coming down, I am going to enjoy just sitting here in front of the fire with a nice mug of hot chocolate just watching it snow. Beauty amongst the beast!!!

Unto knitting after all this is what this blog is suppose to be about. I have been knitting, I know nothing amazing but for me every time I pick up my pointy sticks is amazing. It means growth and hopefully improvement as a knitter.
I am really hoping that this year will be the year that I finally accomplish knitting actual garments, jumpers, cardigans, camisoles that sort of stuff. I know I have been saying it over and over again but I really want my fist project started in 2009 is the Cobblestone pullover by Jared Flood, I have found a bargain at £8 for a 1 kilo cone of a Wool Silk tweed blend which I think will be perfect for a first sweater I have been told by other the yarn really softens with washing so it should be ok.

Here is my first project for 2009 well technically I started it in December 08 but I finished it Jan 09 so it doesn't really count. :~D

A really nice knit, I really like the I-cord edging, which was a first for me. :~D However I did not follow the instructions for the sleeve. I found and alternative way on a blog which I just can't remember, but it was exactly like the instruction for the thumb of the Fetching Mitts from Knitty. I found this much much easier than the provisional cast on suggested by the pattern.

Friday Inspiration #5- Warming your Head

From the beginning of my starting knitting, I have been drawn to hats, I have knitted baby,child and adult. My first hat was a Ribbed hat on straight needles I still can remember the sense of accomplishment I felt after knitting it. I would like to believe that since then it would take something a bit more interesting to excite me, And my most recent excitement is of the Meret of which I have made two both Gifts, I really need to make on for myself the pattern is so gorgeous I really recommend it. But my favorite hat over all the hats I have done would have to be this little cutie :O)Call me mad but I really love the colors and the fact that some child in Africa might be wearing it right now and keeping they head warm. Here are this weeks questions and my answers.

What is your favourite style of hat?
I have always loved Berets I think I have had them (not knitted ) in almost every color at one time or another over my teenage years, but I have not wore a hat in a very long time, even now in the deathly cold of Winter I do not wear a hat.

Do you have a favourite yarn for making hats with?

I love knitting with Aran Worsted or bulky yarns.

What hat patterns are in your queue at the moment?

Happy New Year !!!!!

I hope that everyone is having a great year so far! I have not been blogging as I would like but I will endeavour to change that this year and blog at least once a week and with at least one finished project. I am not making any resolutions but just am trying to become a better blogger.

I am also hoping to continue onward with y quest to knit more complicated patterns and larger items I think this year will be my year for garments and Stranding/Intarsia. Also knitting up my small stash. :O) And get cracking on knitting my first pair of socks. Wish me luck.

I must say thought my Christmas knitted gifts where very well received even if the recipients where just being nice, but most of them have asked for more knitted items and even volunteered to to buy me a knitting machine so I can get more knitting done faster. Was not too please at that idea, but they wouldn't understand. Non knitter very seldom do. I had to explain that I knit for relaxation and not for the finish items although that does make it all worth while.

But something good did come from my giving knitted gifts, one of my friends Yolande, liked her gifts so much she wanted to learn how to knit to here she is knitting her first project a scarf done in Paton's Lush. A very daring yarn for a first project but it came out quite nice and it took her 3 days to complete it, a very good effort. And already she is onto her second project. I feel so please my first student.

Friday Inspiration #4- Warming your Knees

This weeks inspiration is warming the knees. I think this is probably my favorite one as I do love the idea or snuggling up in a nice blanket and watching tele or reading or knitting. But in saying that I also have to confess that I have no knitted blankets of my own but I will fix soon as I have a few in my queue on Ravelry. Here are this weeks questions.

What has been your favourite finished blanket/lapghan?
Again I am limited in my options as I have only done 2 types of blankets and both where quite simple. But of the two I really liked the Pinwheel Blanket.

Do you have a favourite pattern that you'd like to make in the future?
Absolutely!!!!! I have had the Hemlock Ring Blanket on my wish list now for ages but have yet to find the perfect yarn for it. I want something soft yet, warming also with the amount needed I'll need something economical as well I am still trying to find that perfect yarn. Any suggestions?????

Do you have a favourite type of yarn for making blankets/lapghans?
No not as yet as all the ones I have made so far are done in Acrylic because they where for babies, but as I said above I want soft and warm.

Entwined with Mr Frosty's warm legs. But knitting wise slippers or socks although I have no knitted sock as yet.

Yes I have a pair of super thick orange socks (Orange ekkkk sentimental value) that I am practically wearing almost everyday to sleep.

Neither socks/slippers But these Bulky Cabled Legwarmers done with super bulky with cables I think these are really wicked. I know they are not for the foot but close enough. Or these babies Prairie Boots they are really cute.

Friday Inspiration #2- Warming your Neck

What is your favorite neck warming pattern?

I have been dreaming of doing this little number for quite a while now but I have not been brave enough to give it go as yet the pattern is called Ice Queen and I think it's so beautiful and feminine I love it.

However a pattern that I have actually done that I like would have to be one I recently did, a very simple bulky scarf for a friend and I am surprise at how much I love the finished scarf It was super quick and really created a nice lace-ish effect. the pattern is called Super-Fast, Ultra-Cozy Scarf. I did mine in New Lanark Bulky on 10mm needles it's about 65" long and 5" wide.

Do you have a favorite FO?

Absolutely I love the first neck warmer I ever did for my self there is no pattern as I created it myself. There is nothing fancy about it but I love the colors and it is oh so warm. I was done with 6mm Needles using an acrylic yarn :O)

Is there a style of neck warmer you particularly like?

Yes I like Cowl's because they have dual purpose as they warm the neck and cover the head as well.

Friday Inspiration - Warming your Hands

I have totally fallen in love with knitting Fingerless Mitts. I have only knitted a few so far but I have loads queued in my Ravelry. I love the how quickly you can knit them up for gifts or simply just for keeping your hands warm when your on the computer or reading or even on a cold day.

It's 10 days before Christmas and I still have 3 pairs of Mitts to make but I am not worried :O) they knit up pretty quickly. Thats one of the nice things about Mittens are Hand warmers.

My first Mittens where a basic pattern but I am very proud of them. Since my first pair I have so far made Fetching, Twisted Rib , Cabled Fingerless Mitts and also mittens for toddler which where a treat to knit.

I think my favorite so far would have to be the Twisted Rib warmers which where done in Noro Silk Country (yummy) the yarn is absolutely gorgeous the mixture of Silk and Alpaca are very nice to knit with and a dream to wear.

I really want to try stranding and I think I will eventually but for now I am happy to knit up the one in my queue. All of which will make excellent gifts. I would love to make myself a pair in Garnstudio Drops Silke Alpaca 20% silk and 80% baby alpaca ohhh my so so soft.:O) :O) but instead of knitting with the yarn I keep it next to my bed and constantly touching it :O).

House to Home!!!

Hi everyone how are you doing? How is the weather in your neck of the woods? Well as usual it's freezing here, I have had to stop wearing light cardigans or jacket when I go out and had to pull out the Winter coats and tights and boots. Gloves and all I probably look like and Eskimo but I don't care at least I am warm.

We are moving house so not much knitting being done. I am up to my elbow in paint and cleaning. It's like transforming a Caterpillar into a Butterfly. But I like it I get to put my own niche on it.
Although I have not been knitting much I have manage to cast on Mathew's Balaclava, and am really hoping to cast on the Calorimetry and the Cobblestone Pullover soon.

I have decided to destash all the Lace yarn in my stash as I have discovered after a nasty incident with a skein of Lace alpaca that lace weight yarns and I are not friends, so as much as I love looking at lace I will have to find a heavier yarn to knit it with.

Christmas Knitting

Hi all How's everyone doing?

How is your Christmas knitting going? I need to get mine on track, I have maybe 5-6 persons to knit gifts for, so I need to get cracking. I have been busy with decorating our new flat, loads of painting to be done so not much knitting. I am hoping that after the move I will get to snuggle up and knit, knit like the wind. I do however have a few more FO'S to show.

Hi there how is everyone doing? I hope it's warmer where you are than it is here?

I have been knitting again I know this is becoming a habit, but I rather like it! My recent FO are the Wrist warmers from Last Minute Knitted Gifts I really like how they came out and they fit perfectly But I think I will give them as gifts. Actually I am trying to knit all my Holiday gifts. I will keep all items on the smaller level, if I try to knit larger items I may end up with one FO, so Mittens, Scarf and Hats will be the best bet for me.

Anyway enough babbling here are the Mittens. I promise they do look way better than the pic I reall suck at taking pics.

Or maybe that's just my opinion as I think my body is still adjusting to the British weather.Don't get me wrong I absolutely love it here but the weather is so unpredictable I think it changes every 5-10 mins or maybe 2-10 steps. :0)

So I have cast on for my first of many projects. I decided to start with the Winter Set for my friend's daughter, Naomi.

Originally I was going to use Caron simply soft but I am actually using Sidar Toddler Aran. which is knitting up pretty great almost wool like in texture.

I am about half way through the scarf, 44 inches of rib oh my, halfway through the mittens and about to cast on the hat so I can finish it all together. I think it's quite cute.

I recently joined the Library, There is nothing fantastic about that but what I find fantastic is the selection. I come from a country where you go to the library and most of the time I may find one or 2 books on knitting and the ones I did find where vintage to put it nicely. So here I am now in the UK and am blown away by the one(1) the number of books on knitting and two (2)the amount of books I can take from the library at one time twenty(20) also the fact that I can reserve books that may not even be at my branch and have them delivered there for pick up I find that really convenient.
So hats off to the library; because come on it's not every book we may want to buy sometimes they just one pattern that you may want from a book and I for one will not buy a book just for one pattern call me frugal I don't care.
I prefer to go to the library look at it and if it has loads that I may want to knit then yes I'll buy it but if not I can take it home or chose to leave it there.

Here is a few of the ones I recently got, and these where books I had wanted to check out for sometime now, not that I may ever knit anything from them but at least I have the opportunity to read, gaze and decide if anything in the books would be right for me.

And I have few on reserve to collect this week. As the British would say I am well chuffed!!!!

A Year already??

Happy Blog day to me .............................Today is one year that I have been blogging, I am pretty chuffed that I have stuck with it for so long because sometimes I just don't have (blank) to say. But never the less I have here for a year and loving it. And no I am not going to do anything as original as a competition I have learn my lesson with that plus, only maybe 2 or 3 persons read this space anyway. So I am just going have me a nice slice of cake a glass of milk and reread all my previous post. So that I can see what I have done wrong and what I have done right and aim to make my blog a more inviting place.

On another note I have received my Swap package from the UK swap.I will post a pic later. It was totally unexpected. I am still waiting to finish my package to send off but right now I am paying a few debts off so I can sleep better at night.

I have been doing so much over the last few months, I am now knitting for 3 different charities Caring Yorkshire Hands Save the Children and Blankets for UK Hospitals, it's a really great feeling to know that some small item I have knitted will help to save a life or keep a child warm. I have already sent off 2 boxes of hats to Save the children and I am at present finishing up a few items for the Caring Yorkshire Hands and getting ready to start my first blanket for the UK Blanket charity which I have join over on KH . I will try to post Pics of a few of the FO's.

An update on my previous WIP some I have finished the Palindrome Scarf, the Pink Pinwheel Blanket and even went on to do An unoriginal hat I only have one item that is still on my needles well technically on waste yarn, that I have to finish and that is my first pinwheel blanket which was intended for my niece Kayla. but maybe I finish it on time for when she has her first baby. The blanket has so many stitches that It will no longer fit on any of my needles so I am searching for a longer one about 200 cm or so. because I want to move on I hate leaving things unfinished, hope I can find the needle soon.

I do however have several project in mind to start pretty soon but I am getting totally organise first so that I can confront any problems head on. I am really excited to get started because most of these items are for the upcoming winter.

On my to do list is and it is quite wishful thing on my part but I am going to try very hard to accomplish everything on this list:

When I first started knitting I would only knit things that where small and that I considered easy and I was stuck in the mentality for quite sometime but I am trying to get out of that kind of thinking so I started the Palindrome scarf which to me at the time seemed difficult (by the way so easy) and the the Pinwheel Blankets (again so easy) so by the time I got to my Unoriginal hat cables where not as scary as before. And I have found that I rather like Cables. I think the other big things that scare the heck out of me are large garments and lace and the is where two of the projects on my to do list comes in. Anyway I am really excited about getting started and will be posting about my journey as I go through my list which as I finish one Item I will be adding another.

What are you doing to participate in WWKIP day on Saturday?
I knit everywhere all the time so therefore I have a knit n public daily. As for the WWKIP I am not quite sure as yet, I have a wedding to go to on Saturday so I don't think that is an appropriate place for knitting but if I did knit it would definitely be the strangest place I ever knitted. I am a Barbadian living in UK. I am relatively a beginner knitter, I knit for relaxation. I have not knitted with any other fibers but Acrylic, but that doesn't mean I am not willing to try new fibers (I am very much so). I am willing to step outside of my comfort zone ( so far most things I have knitted are hats) and try new things. I am a self taught knitter so most of what I have learnt is from TV or internet. I love reading but I think when it come to knitting I am a visual learner I prefer to see pictures or videos and not just read about it.There are so many things I would love to try in knitting and so much yarn to get. My next stop is learning to spin (very excited about that). oh did I mention I love chocolate or anything with chocolate in it.

Buenos Noches everyone!

What's up with you?

Well it's been a while since I have posted or knitted anything, I don't know I just seem to have lost my "MOJO" Some days I just don't feel like doing anything I know it sounds like I am being lazy, but that's not it honestly:- I can't seem to bring myself to even get up some mornings. and most mornings I awake with a serious migraine and to top it all off I am feeling depressed totally depressed. It's been 4 months count em 4 that I have not been hugged, kissed or felt the touch of my Boobear (pet name for hubby),Yes I have not seen my husband in 4 months some people would say that is no time but for me it seems like eternity and it is really hard if I knew it would have been like this I wouldn't have made the decision to leave him, but it was a sacrifice that had to be made, but that doesn't make it any easier. I am really praying that everything gets sorted out soon so that I can leave this tropical paradise and return to the very unpredictable weather of England. I miss him so much just a little bit more than I miss not having any real yarn to knit with while I am here. I have so many projects I want to get started, but in all seriousness I feel like I have lost an arm or leg I feel helpless without him, someone reading this will have a difference in opinion to mine I believe that my boo is my soul mate and that God created him just for me he is the most caring, gentle, forgiving, loving, kind, considerate, trusting man I have ever known and he makes me feel so special and cared for I feel like the only other person in my life who can love me and care for me as much as he does is the almighty father.And I believe in this world where everything is so materialistic that when we find someone or something special that makes our heart truly beat and causes the blood that flows thro our veins to do a double take we should treasure them or it with our hearts, and I have found two such loves God and my boo bear.

A little knitting talk! What's on your needles?

Well I'll tell you whats on mine "hats" and more "hats". Do I sound excited? well I am "very" this is the fist thing in months that has made me feel so good about myself. I recently became involved in Save The Children Africa Project. And this is my first time knitting for charity and it feels sooooooooo good I feel energized and ready to knit for the fist time in weeks. So far I have 4 hats my target is 20 hats. I hope that those who read my blog will decide to help save these innocent lives, you don't have to live in the UK to be apart of it you just have to be willing. Honestly my choices of yarn to use for these little hats are very limited right now as the only yarn that is sold here is Red Heart Super saver and I think that is way to harsh for a babies head or any apart of them. So I have to try to see if I can get my hands on some worsted or Dk weight yarn to get more hats done I did receive some yarn from a very kind Sandy a little while ago but most of it I can't use because of the color apparently in Africa white symbolises death and most of the yarn she sent me was mostly white are had a white background so I need to find some relatively cheap washable yarn aka (acrylics) online that will ship to Barbados anyone knows of any drop me a line I hope I can find them soon because I am excited to get these hats done.

Here are 3 of the finished ones I have done so far just a basic rolled brim with a I-cord top and a 2x2 rib with a little and I mean little stranding and a basic 1x1 rib with stripes.

Sick of being sick!!!!!!

Hi all wats up? Hope you all had a great Easter weekend and that the Easter Bunny treated you well?
Just a quick post to say I am still alive. I had the cold or the flu not quite sure, but still getting over the bug that bit me. I have not picked up my pointy sticks sent my last post UHHHHH (that's the sound of me pulling out my hair).Why do we get sick?? even when we eat right, exercise follow all the rules about keeping our bodies in tip top condition, we still get the cold or the flu (Uhhhhhhh). So maybe we should just sit on our sofa's with our knitting (of course) and pig out on chocolate and cheesecake and drink loads of pop and chocolate milkshakes. I wonder then will our colds and other illnesses be any sweeter?(ok ok end of mad rant).
By the way did anyone know that there is a group for Ravelry on Facebook ?

"Big girl panties" and Entrelac progress

Well I am feeling quite proud of myself right about now, I have made some progress on my Entrelac practice square. I have done the color change to the second color and getting ready to change back to the first color. So I give myself a round of applause. I really am a big chicken, when it comes to trying new things in knitting that is why I joined this Kal. But at the start of March when it was said we where doing Entrelac and I found out what it was I was actually thinking of dropping out. Yeah I am that much of a chicken but now as I sit here recovering from a nasty migraine I feel so good, even thought it is a small accomplishment I feel like I have done something HUGE.

A few weeks ago a friend sent me an email with a picture of a woman posing with lots of attitude ans the words were written next to her "Put on your big girl panties and deal with it" well I am a big girl so I have decided this will be my motto when it comes to my knitting so every time I feel like giving up I will recite this.

Here are a few progress shots of my journey to Entrelac they are a few errors when I picked up my sts so when I am doing the real square I wouldn't repeat those errors.

Hi everyone a very pleasant good afternoon, how is everyone doing? This past few weeks have been a roller coaster of emotions for it started out exciting then I was pensive then sad then angry with myself. Why you may ask? and I will tell you no one absolutely no one entered my blog competition, I know from comments that maybe about 4 or 5 persons read my blog so I at least thought you faithful few would have wanted my beautiful stitch markers, but I am guessing everyone was so busy with they busy lives that no one got a chance to read my post about the competition. I am thinking that maybe I should have done a poll about how many persons would have been interested in doing the competition but; I am not going to let one failed attempt get me down I have dusted off my butt after falling on it and I am moving on. Forward march!!

Moving on. I was just over on KH and read a post that made my day someone posted that she enjoyed my blog (huge grin on my face) can you beleive it? Someone likes my ramblings (Yeah).

This is the month of March and I have been eagerly awaiting the March square from the afghan Kal I am doing on KH and to my surprise this month's stitch is Entrelac ? I didn't have a clue what it was so I had to do some research. It is a beautiful design and I am feeling quite overwhelmed at it but I am ready for a challenge no more just sitting around and knitting st st and garter st I am going forth trying new and different things even if I frog a few times. I have found a tutorials online which has made it seem not as difficult as I first thought. Afghan KAL 1st Square

I have joined a KAL on KH, this is my fist KAL and I am very excited. The object is to create twelve 12 X12 squares over a 12 month period why so much time you may ask? but a month per square gives each person the opportunity the time necessary to complete each square without any pressure. Each month will be a different stitch pattern increasing in difficulty so at the end of the KAL each person knows how to knit something they didn't know how to knit before I think it will be good because if you are having problems with a particular stitch you have a support group to turn too. This is my first square a basic st st with a garter st border.I can't wait to see what next month's stitch is, I can't wait until we get to intarsia and lace and all the other good stuff.

A Night From Hell!!!

Last night was the worst night I have ever had in my life. My family and I where at home hanging out and chatting you know just being a family.
Then it was like out of some movie or twilight zone or something, who knew that a baby having a little cold could turn into a night from HELL!!! my whole house broke out in chaos, my niece, Kayla's mother started shouting and screaming she's not breathing she can't breathe I am still at this point not quite sure I know what I did. I sprang from my chair and ran into the kitchen where everyone was now gathered bundle around little baby Kayla, lying in her mothers hand gasping for breathe and spitting from the mouth. I when completely white my heart stop beating my head started pounding as I hear my mum say so many time I didn't know my head from my tail, and everyone panicking and I am thinking oh my God she is going to die she is going to die. As I stood there scared out of my knickers my niece gave Kayla to me to hold so she could call the emergency services I stood there not knowing what to do I have never felt so desperate in my entire life.
Well after a little while the ambulance came and my mum and I stay at home while my sister and my niece went to the hospital with Kayla. A BIG mistake because we didn't sleep a wink my mum jut sat there and I tried to distract myself with yarn porn on Ravelry (that didn't help at all) after hours of what seemed like days Rashida (Kayla's mum) called with an update on my Kayla, and the news was great she told us that because Kayla had the cold and she is only a baby she was congested and that is why she couldn't breathe and was gasping for breathe e and the mucus was coming through her mouth. I felt as if I had just won the lottery of One Million Pounds. I never ever want to go through something like that again I have never felt so helpless in my life. But I am happy to say now Kayla is much much better now, but she still has the cold so chances of it happening again are possible but we will be on our guard and armed to handle it better this time. Thank you guys for listening and letting me cry on your shoulders. I am so tired now I am going to take a nap since I didn't get any last night.

Kayla's Blanket

My lastest WIP Pinwheel Baby Blanket for my niece Kayla. The beginning was a little tuff but I found some very helpful tips on Ravelry which got me on my way. I am loving it so far it is knitting up pretty quickly considering I am a very slow knitter. And the pattern is very easy to remember so I don't have to walk around with a pattern it's all in my head. I will post more pics as it grows.

Ok Ok bare with me here I know you probably tired of me posting about these hats.But I just love knitting hats they are a quick fix to twitchy fingers. This hat though is a bit different than the others firstly it has an intended owner Kayla and secondly I used the Magic Loop technique to do this one I feel quite pleased with myself for trying something new I don't think I will use dpns again at least not if I can help it. Today Magic Loop tomorrow intarsia/stranding.

Yarn: Worsted
Needle US#10 Circs
Gauge:5 sts=1' in st st
Cast On 52 sts
Knit in 2x2 rib for 1" in contrasting color
Switch to main color knit and increase 4 sts on the row and work in st st
Knit until piece measures 4.5"
Begin decreasing
Knit 6 sts, knit 2tog repeat for entire row
Next row knit

This is a variation from the one I posted a few days ago with minor changes. Instead of a rolled brim I did a 2x2 ribbing and did smaller stripes wanted to try stranding but I don't know how to do that as yet hopefully learn soon. I did not knit these hat in the round because I don't have the appropriate needles but I am guessing it could be done in the round. Here goes:

Ribbed Brim Stripe Hat
Yarn: Dk
Needle US#8
Gauge:4 sts=1' in st st (2 Strands held together)

Cast On 52 sts
Knit in 2X2 ribbing for 1"
Change to 2nd color and increase 4 sts on the next row RS and working in st st for 2 rows then change back to main color for 4 rows change to 2nd color for anothe r2 rows then continue in main color until piece measures 5.5" from cast on
Decreasing

K2tog every 3 sts repeat for entire row

Next Row Purl
k2tog every other st repeat for entire row

I was given a few XL balls of Dk yarn recently by a friend and decided to knit some hats with it, is acrylic so washable I have been searching for suitable patterns but I did see any I wanted to use so decided to just cast on and knit and work out the decreasing as I go and this is what I came up.Would fit a toddler or small child.

Rolled Brim Stripe Hat

Yarn: Dk

Needle US#8

Gauge:4 sts=1' in st st (2 Strands held together)

Cast On 52 sts
Knit in st st for 1"
Increase 4 sts on the next row RS continue working in st st
Knit until piece measures 1" from rolled edged (measure with brim rolled)
Switch to second color knit for 2 rows
Switch to main color knit for 2 rows
Switch back to second color for another 2 rows

Switch to second color and begin decreasing

I think the sky here in Barbados is just Gorgeous !!

We look at thing everyday but never really see the beauty in them.

I am still not quite sure why I took this and I don't even think my spelling is correct. These little things are called Doungs or Duncks they grow in the Caribbean and come in all different sizes and taste, some sweet and some a bit tart. But everyone likes them.Hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoy eating them.

A new Hobby!

A few months ago because of a Swap on KH I decided to try my hand at making stitch makers I didn't have clue where to start or what I would need so I searched the Internet came up with some sites to purchase the materials needed and off I went. These first ones are made from dragon beads I ordered from eBay.

I have been in another swap since then and also made some for that lady well and to my surprise both person loved them, unfortunately I don't have pics of the finished ones"shucks"but I do have a few pics of some I have started not quite finish. I also recently found a place here in Barbados that has some of the most beautiful beads I have ever seen in my life made from shells and coral found here on the island and I will be making some markers with them later so I will post those as well so you can see the beauty of my Island. But do I really need so many stitch makers who knows but only time will tell. But I will continue making them because they are so pretty and fun to make. I am going to be taking a jewelry making class because I like working with the beads but I would really like to make my stitch markers look very professional, so when I give them gifts they are well received.

So pretty soon I will have more stitch Markers than the Yarn Harlot has yarn (ROFL).

These are a few small items I have done over the holidays to keep my mind occupied. nothing big. the first one is a dishcloth pattern that I use as a doily it was a last minute something But it was so so quick that I promise myself that I will make it over with the correct yarn in the new year.

The second one is another of the Knitted Newborn Hat Pattern that I have decided to knit and donate to charity.

And last but not least my Palindrome Scarf my first cable project the pattern called for 3 cables but because of the bulky yarn I am using I had to drop one of the cables, but like it it is so squishy. I will be knitting the hat as well I am getting and early start on my 2008 Christmas knitting. I know it's quite far ahead but If God spares life I will be thanking myself for the early start.

Hope to have much much more WIP's and FO's in the new year coming.

2007 what can I really say about this past year, it started out with excitement and promise of great things to come. I was going to move to a totally different country, learn everything there was to know about the craft of knitting which has taken over my life (not that I mind ), and do so many fantastic things. But somewhere along the way things just didn't work out as plan and yes it was planned, I must admit that it has taken a toll on me and my life but I also think it has made that aspect of my life a lot stronger. But although this year has not been totally great it has have it's moments, I have met some amazing people, done some awesome things at least I think there are awesome and tried many new things and anyone who knows me knows I don't like trying new things some of my friends and family are still surprise that I have taught myself to knit. So amidst the bad some good have fought it's way through. I have always heard what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger so that means I should be as strong as an Ox, and I do believe that I am a better and stronger person because of everything that has happened. but I pray that while leaving this year of 2007 and going into 2008 that I can leave behind all my sorrow and step into the new year refreshed, renewed and ready to do amazing things in Jesus name.

I don't usually make list or resolutions but I am going to make a list of all the things I would like to accomplish in the New Year (especially in my knitting, there is so many things I want to do).

So here's my list not quite sure how long or short it will be so here goes:

1>Resolve all issues with people who I have hurt or who have hurt me

2> Stop worrying so much about what others think ok me and believe in myself

3> Stop procrastinating

4> Be more assertive

5>Live a more healthy lifestyle

6> Become Debt free

7>Give more freely of myself

8>Become more proficient in my knitting (take a few classes)

9>Learn to knit lace, knit my 1st garment and create my first original design

10>Increase my finances (for stash enhancement purposes)

I pray that you guys have a blessed and healthy and wealthy 2008.

When life happens and happens badly!

Holiday Greetings to all.

I have not posted here for quite sometime now, so I just decided to come drop a few lines here just to let you know I am still alive. Life has been hectic and chaotic over the last five weeks it seems like I just woke up one morning and my whole world was thrown upside down. Everything in my life has just gone from being ok to being sooooooo lousy it really sucks. So to all of you who read this blog and I am not quite sure if anyone does, but if you do and you believe in the power of pray please pray for me and my family as we really need it right now.

I have not take not my pointy sticks in weeks and I tried this week and ended up frogging my mind is in complete turmoil, but I am really believing that God has some BIG plan for me that I must now endure this hardship and chaos.

Everyone is telling me have faith be patient, and God knows I am trying really hard now to have doubt in my beliefs but it's hard very hard. But really I have to say unless you have walked a mile in my shoes don't tell me that my problems are small or I have no faith because all of us are different and what is easy for you may be very difficult for me.

But inspite of everything I have been enduring lately I still thank God for my friends and family who have been supporting me emotionally.

I probably could go on all night as I have so much to say and with no one to interrupt me here I could type all night but unfortunately sleep calls, so if anyone out there in blog land reads this blog and want to offer a word of encouragement or support please feel free to leave your comments.

I bolted out of bed about 2 minutes ago when my hubby said to me Boo it's snowing I said why don't you stop pulling my leg it's not snowing it's not winter yet. So he decided to pull the drapes back and holy cow it was snowing. Snow I couldn't believe it guess you can tell by this reaction that I have never seen it before and you would be right. we don't get snow in the tropics.
If any of you reading this post have children compare my fist reaction to you taking your children to a candy or toy store for the first time- yeah that bad. Be right back going outside to see it first hand.

Something from nothing!

After my behaviour in my previous post I didn't expect to be back here so soon but god id good. I was searching through my closet and found some very small pieces of yarn that had been left over from something else. The colors not so sure how their would look together and maybe no one except me would put together but desperate times calls for desperate measures. So I took up my needles and cast on. I casted on 100 sts and just started knitting in the round I did not have clue was I was knitting but I just knew I was knitting and it felt great!.
Being as it was small amounts of each I decided to switch yarns and try to create some sort of harmony with the colors. At this stage I am knitting away and still don't know what it would be if anything at all.
Sometime during the day I had to go to the market. It was really cold so decided to layer up really good but somehow in the process of ensuring my body was not cold I forgot about my head my head was freezing but what could I do I was already in the market so i told myself as soon as i got home i would try to find a nice hat pattern for myself that maybe I could use my scrap yarn for. So I came home and went straight onto the computer and started looking for hat patterns I didn't see anything that would work so I decided to Google head warmers and up came this "snood" was not sure what it was until I saw a picture I was over the moon it was just a tube that acted like a hood and scarf in one and all I had to do was continue adding length to my piece and voila I would have a cover for my head.

So I proved to myself that even when i am down God is always up yo something and thought the colors may not look so hot together as least my head will be warm!

AAAHHHh! Yarn Drought

It's a cloudy 9 degrees out today, and I feel just the same. I have not picked up my shiny sticks for days now and it's really messing me up bad. I am in a knitting rut I have no yarn in my stash- zilch, zero, nothing,nada this is the most frustrating experience ever. And right now I am in no position to purchase any new yarn until the end of the month (((((((screaming))))))). So what is a poor girl to do ????

So for these past week or so I have been at home bored to tears with nothing to do except go unto Ravelry and KH and ogle other peoples yarns and FO's ((that's bad )) I'm like a junkie looking for a fix, I think pretty soon I'll go into shock or something. I need to knit ((((((ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh)))))))),

????Could this be my mid life crisis???? Or is this the end for me??

Ok seriously I can't way until this period of withdrawal is over this is so hard so so hard.
